I have set a project for myself: tighter edits.
I reached my space limit on Flickr for the month with my Italy photos -- and not even all of them. I still have some photos of Venice that I want to post. I'm taking this as a sign that I need to be more critical in my photo picks. I don't want to just dump lots of photos on the web. I think it diminishes the quality of the set.
On Monday, Jane Goodall spoke to more than 300 students (primary and secondary) at the European Parliament. It was great fun to cover. Goodall greeted the children in chimpanzee, and there was the cute questions that only eight-year-olds could come up with, i.e. Did you meet any snakes in the jungle?
A lot of my shots were of her speaking. I couldn't use a flash so while the colors are better (I've been playing around a lot with white balance), a lot of them ended up burly (another project: figure out how to manually change the shutter speed on my camera). But anyways, I also got some shots of her interacting with the kids, signing autographs, shaking hands, etc. I liked these shots a lot better. More visual interest.
So below are my final two.

I like Goodall's expression a lot more in Photo 2, but I find the cameraman behind her distracting. It almost looks like he is coming out of her head. Photo 1 doesn't have that distraction to the same degree. There is a man there, but for some reason, it looks more natural. I mean, she is surrounded by lots of people, and the crowd was continuously flowing and pushing as they tried to get out the door.
What do you think? Did you even notice the cameraman? Am I over-analyzing at this point? Which do you like better?
